The hospital pharmacy receive a physician's directive for ceftizoxime sodium/cefizox 0.5g im bid x 2 days: after 2

50 mg im bid for 5 days.the available supply of ceftizoxime sodium is 2 g vial.how many vials will be required for this writ.
0.5 gm bid = 1 gm per day x 2 days = 2 gms
250 mg bid = 500 mg per hours of daylight x 5 days = 2500 mg
Total needed is 2 + 2.5 = 4.5 gms.
They will need 3 of the 2 gm vials.
which is it? 0.5 gm or 50 mg?
Thanks for the totter down memory lane. I've not seen ceftizoxine prescribed for just about 20 years
